Whilst supportive of the principle of development and regeneration, iSec has serious concerns about the way in which the proposals for The London Resort will impact the transport network north of the River Thames. The proposals for a 2,500 space car park at Tilbury represent a car-centric approach to accessibility for journeys from north of the river, and a proper assessment needs to be undertaken to understand the potential impact of this proposal on the local and strategic highway networks, with and without LTC in place. Opportunities for non-car travel to and from Tilbury ferry terminal need to be fully explored and sustainable travel options should be provided as an attractive alternative to the car. For cars which do access the Tilbury car park, there is a concern that with LTC in place many will do so by u-turning at A13/A1014 Roundabout, which is a critical junction and the only access point to TEP (and DP World). Without LTC in place there will be extra pressure on M25 Junction 30 and the A13. The impact of this needs to be fully understood, and subject to the outcome of any assessment, appropriate mitigation developed. Therefore, overall iSec’s current position is to oppose The London Resort, but we would welcome further discussion to understand how our concerns can be addressed and hopefully overcome.
