I represent the County Council division that includes Pakenham and am not in a position to comment on the Sizewell C project as a whole but wish to focus on the proposals for a fen meadow at Pakenham. I am aware of the comments made by the Parish Council and am supportive of those. While in principle I have no objection to the proposals for a fen meadow, there is not sufficient certainty about the details at the moment to ensure that it has no adverse consequences on the area or its residents. • We would wish to see more information about the water level changes and the impact that this would have on the very sensitive ecology that already exists in the area (noting that there are a Site of Special Scientific Interest and County Wildlife Site nearby). • There is the opportunity for this to become a useful and attractive resource for the local community but we would need to have some idea of proposals for access and how it works with the local rights of way network before we can welcome this element. • As a Grade II * Listed Building, Pakenham Watermill is a key feature of the village and, with the windmill, represents a unique combination of such historic structures in one place. The long term future of the Watermill is very dependent on the availability of water to feed its millpond. The fen meadow proposal is immediately upstream of the millpond and we need to be clear that the proposals will not jeopardise the future supply of water to the mill. • A number of landowners would be affected by the compulsory purchase proposals and there need to be arrangements in place to ensure that their enterprises as a whole are not adversely affected
