My concern is with the proposed scale of development, the specious motivations behind it, the proximity to residential neighbourhoods and the clear safety risks to the local population. Like many I'm in favour of renewable energy, in principle and in practice. What I am against is the investors' and land owners' cynical attempt to exploit it in an unsuitable site for maximum personal gain. Should they get a 'green' light their declared intention is to sell it immediately - they wouldn't even be answerable for the consequences. Any politician or civil servant who supports this plan might think they are leaving a valuable legacy, 'making a difference' at a time when climate change and energy security are both at the top of the agenda. Hence the speciousness. But with lives threatened by battery plants and food security harmed by the needless appropriation of agricultural land, the story would get out. No amount of Sunnica's costly PR would cover up an appalling abuse of a system meant to protect our future.
