We (H.Neal and M.Neal) are writing to express our objection to the proposal of Sunnica Energy Farm. We own land north of Dyson’s Drove, Burwell which is identified as being crossed by the cable route on its approach to the Burwell Sub-station. The property is an equestrian facility. Our concerns are related to horse welfare; 1. The proposed development will cause significant disruption and the loss of access to both grazing paddocks and exercising track. The disruption associated with construction may prevent us from keeping horses at the premises. 2. Our major concern is a compromise to horse welfare caused by the risk of Equine Grass Sickness occurring subsequent to the soil disturbance caused by excavation. This disease has a high fatality rate. Please see, • Moredun Foundation. Potential management practices which may reduce the risk of grass sickness. Dr. Scott Pirie, Easter Bush Veterinary Centre, Easter Bush, Roslin, Midlothian EH25 9RG. Minimise any pasture/soil disturbance e.g. harrowing/mechanical faeces removal/pipe-laying/construction work etc.) [Redacted] • British Horse Society – Horse health and Sickness – Equine Grass Sickness, www.bhs.org.uk On raising our concerns with Sunnica we were told that their Environment team would be in touch to discuss but we have received no contact from them. Correspondence addressed to Luke Murray at Sunnica has received no response.
