I object to the Sunnica scheme. I live in Burwell, one of the villages directly affected by the scheme. I enjoy walking and travelling through this area and do not wish to see the fields overtaken by solar panels and battery storage units. Some of my objections are: • Carbon output The amount created by building this scheme will be greater than the amount saved by collecting renewable energy from the solar panels. This will not help combat climate change. • Grow food locally Farmland should be used to produce food and provide space for wildlife. Transporting food from other countries adds to the food’s carbon footprint and leaves countries (Britain, in this case) vulnerable to what happens in another country (war, pestilence, other disasters). • Wildlife habitat This will be destroyed when building the scheme, which is of course not good for the wildlife (plants, insects, mammals, birds) or for biodiversity. • Mental health I live near a large building site and am very aware that it does not help me feel positive. There are numerous studies showing the importance to people’s mental health of being able to view and walk in countryside and fresh air. Such a large solar farm will not have a positive impact on local people, whilst being built, or in the future when most of what is visible is grey glass covering such a very large area of what was growing countryside and farmland. Please keep me informed about this scheme and your decision by writing to: [Redacted]
