Newmarket is internationally recognised as the home of horseracing and its history and royal connections goes back centuries. Without a doubt it is the centre of world horseracing and the whole of the racing industry with its many facets, relies on the town's continued success. Racing plays a huge part in the visitor economy and visitors come from all over the world to see the hallowed training grounds. The Gallops have been protected over many centuries and it is imperative that they continue to do so. The detrimental impact to Newmarket if the Sunnica project goes ahead would change the landscape and deeply affect future investment into the town which in turn would affect everyone who lives, works and visits the area. Discover Newmarket is therefore strongly against this proposal on the grounds of the impact to the visitor economy and the need to retain our unique heritage.
