While I am in favour of sustainable renewable energy schemes, I am opposed to this proposed development for the following reasons: The choice of location for this vast solar panel farm on prime vegetable growing farmland beside Newmarket's historic racing gallops is fundamentally wrong. The proposed development will cause (possibly irreversible) damage to Newmarket as the UK's headquarters of thoroughbred racing and breeding. While the proposed development is being put forward as one which is sustainable and environmentally friendly, it will bring with it a significant amount of collateral damage to the environment in this quiet, rural area. In summary, I fear that the damage which will be caused to the area, landscape and its residents should this project be allowed to proceed is likely to outweigh the benefits.
