I am strongly supportive of sustainable renewable energy schemes, I am opposed to the Sunnica Energy Farm for the following reasons: The location for this huge solar farm on prime agricultural farmland beside Newmarket’s historic racing gallops is fundamentally wrong. Bearing in mind, the current situation in Ukraine, the importance of the UK to be able to produce its own food cannot be underestimated. The proposed development will also cause severe damage to Newmarket as the UK’s headquarters of thoroughbred racing and breeding industry, which provide and support employment within Newmarket and the surrounding villages. While the proposed development is being put forward as one which is sustainable and environmentally friendly, it will ruin prime agricultural farmland while brown field / industrial sites that are unused or underused are in abundance throughout the country. In conclusion, I fear that the damage which will be caused to the area, landscape and its residents should this project be allowed would outweigh the benefits.
