I am objecting to the proposal because it includes a plan to take over a large proportion of Crossness Nature Reserve - 11 hectares out of 25 - to build on. This has been Section 106 land for the last twenty years or so and proactively managed by Thames Water and local volunteers resulting in measurable increases in biodiversity. Climate change and biodiversity loss are two sides of the same coin. It is perverse for Cory to claim green credentials for developing its CCS plans by ruining an existing piece of marshland which itself is an excellent form of carbon storage. Cory has other options for siting these particular buildings without despoiling a nature reserve with several designations recognising its importance. I am part of a community of nature-loving citizens who recognise that what looks like a negligible loss on the site footprint map is really another nail in the coffin for biodiversity and the uphill effort to mitigate climate change.
