Siting the Cory plant on a Nature Reserve which has been designated as a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation is both ill-concieved and ill-considered. To sacrifice the nature reserve to an industrial plant that uses a technology that only mitigates the effects of CO2 indefinitely and is not a long term solution to the climate crisis and in the process destroying one of the last remaining grazing marshes in the London area and the habitat of many rare and endangered species that live there is not the answer. Not only will the construction of the plant destroy a rare habitat it will also drastically reduce the amenity space for the residents of Abbey Wood, Belvedere and Thamesmead. The site provides a green link from the Thames to Lesnes Abbey and the wider network of Green Chain walks which would be a tragedy to lose in an area which already has more than its fair share of industry blighting the landscape and not enough natural habitat for the residents to enjoy. It is also disingenuous of Cory to state they are increasing the footprint of the nature reserve when firstly they are without a doubt building on part of the nature reserve with the other areas shown as an increase to the size of the nature reserve already part of the marsh and used as access to the nature reserve anyway.
