Crossness Nature Reserve is one of the last remaining area of grazed marshland within the Greater London area and as a Metropolitan Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (MSINC) it holds significant value for the whole of London. Public and private money has been used to enhance the nature reserve, including the stable block which will be demolished by Cory want to acquire via compulsory acquisition from Thames Water who have a legal duty (under a Section 106 agreement) to manage and enhance the marshland until 2093. This operation wants to erase over 10% of the Crossness Nature Reserve to clear up their own environmental (carbon emissions) mess all with unproven technology. The claim they will actually be making the reserve bigger is a blatant lie Cory admits that this work will irreversibly damage habitats and biodiversity. The nature reserve supports incredibly rare and endangered species such as water vole (UK’s fastest declining mammal ) and shrill carder bee (the UK’s rarest bumblebee ). Water voles actively use a ditch which will be built on, we cannot afford to keep ignoring our rare species. As a community member I am proud that we host these creatures and we should be doing all we can to protect them. It’s a well loved area close to many local residents hearts.
