Our soldiers fought in the second world war to protect our green and pleasant land. It is now under an even greater threat from this industrial vandalism. The environment will be ruined in the so called name of saving the environment. This, I am sure you will have heard in many comments, so I will make my point. Being a farmer adjacent to part of the proposals, I strongly object to the applicant falsely implying that this is land of poor quality. I understand that government guidelines state that only the poorer quality soils should be considered for such projects. I feel that someone is being economical with the truth here. I use a large agronomy company to purchase my inputs from. They cover the whole of the country. They run a scheme whereby customers inputs and returns are scrutinised. My ten year average yields are in the top ten percent of all farms using their service. This is far from poor land as I could not achieve this year on year otherwise. With a lot of love and care, this is top class combinable crop growing land. It holds the moisture and nutrients which is ideal should we continue to have hot, dry summers. Surely the war in Ukraine shows that we need to be more self sufficient in food production. For this reason alone, I urge you to reject this folly that is the Cottam Solar Project.
