Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) My understanding is that a considerable amount of water is required to extinguish a BESS fire. Within the project documents I cannot see any proposals to contain all of the contaminated water that would have been used to extinguish a BESS fire. My concern is that without a suitable and sufficient containment device such as a bund, in the event of a fire the toxic runoff would contaminate the water course and surrounding land resulting in pollution that is likely to be harmful to health.
