Byers Gill construction impact on road traffic. Our business is based in Newton Aycliffe and our staff travel to and from work along the country lanes that go through the proposed Byers Gill site as this is the shortest route. We have noted from the plans that some of the cable routes are in the public roads and from other local solar developments have seen that temporary traffic lights are used at times such as when site access roads are constructed. Subsequently we are concerned that our staff will experience delays during construction period increasing their journey times to and from work, and may also have to use alternative (longer) routes to and from work increasing both travel time and cost. The country roads that go through the proposed Byers Gill site are in poor condition, Lime Lane and Lodge Lane which the developer has identified as the principal HGV route for construction traffic is in a very poor condition, being heavily potholed with the edges of the road in many places have broken away. This means that traffic has to swerve around the potholes often into the path of oncoming traffic, we are concerned that with an increase in HGV traffic from Byers Gill the roads will further deteriorate increasing the potential for accidents and delays.
