As a former resident, I farmed for 40 years adjacent to the proposed development. I am concerned, firstly, about the size of the solar farm, it is quite out of keeping with the surrounding countryside. I am all in favour of green energy, but the projects need to be spread out more. Secondly, I am concerned about the effects on agricultural production. The farmland that is being used grows crops such as wheat, barley and oilseeds that are needed for this country's self sufficiency. I am sceptical about the claims that sheep can graze under the panels, the growth of grass will be severely reduced by the shading effect. Therefore the amount of food produced will be a fraction of what it is now. It would be far better for all concerned if the panels were placed on less productive land.
