I am writing to express my strong objection to the construction of a solar farm ‘Byers Gill’ around Great Stainton village. The construction of the farms will take good agricultural land out of food production. Coming from a farming family myself, I am seeing firsthand the impact that this is having on the mental health of my family who have farmed this land for generations. What’s more, the construction of the solar farms would disrupt natural habitats, some on the endangered list, transforming plains of green to strips of metal. It seems paradoxical to construct a source of renewable energy in a bid to protect the environment, whilst at the same time destroying the natural environment. Other more effective renewable energy sources, away from agricultural land, should be sought in order to better achieve this objective.
