I strongly oppose the proposed Byers Gill Solar development due to its inappropriate location and detrimental impact on agricultural sustainability and biodiversity. Despite acknowledging the importance of renewable energy, this project's conversion of 2000 acres of prime farmland into a solar farm is unacceptable. The developers' claims of biodiversity enhancement through minor mitigation efforts are unfounded and inadequate. The project prioritizes combating climate change over biodiversity conservation, ignoring their interconnectedness. Moreover, it disregards the principles of climate justice by imposing costs on local communities without their meaningful involvement. I urge the Planning Inspectorate to reject the proposal, emphasizing the need to uphold ecological integrity, agricultural sustainability, and democratic engagement in future renewable energy projects.
