Massive expansion is counter to local and national interests for following reasons: Local: Single runway means a doubling of flights requires take off and landing at most times during day and night drastically negatively impacting quality of life in area. Flight path over busy rural and urban conurbations risks damaging human and wildlife health with massive increased flight activity. Luton airport is already a substantial local employer as per 2012 statement that increase to 18 mppa by 2028 will be sufficient. Chilterns AONB designation severely compromised with such a dramatic increase. Any such increase would risk devaluing property in the surrounding areas. Proposed increase would negatively impact innate attractiveness of rural areas leading to loss of income to local economy for villages and local businesses not dependent upon Luton airport. National: The massive proposed increase of carbon based fuel consumption is absolutely counter to government and international carbon reduction commitments. It would be wise to allow electric and hydrogen enabled commercial flights to become viable before any such proposed increase. Luton should not be considered a London based airport alone and increasing capacity at airports in the Midlands would be more sensible especially in relation to levelling up the UK economy.
