In outline, the comments I wish to make are as follows: 1) I have with my wife lived for 30 years closely beneath the flight path of Westerly departures from Luton Airport and can attest from experience to the adverse impact on the quiet enjoyment of our home that has resulted from the incremental increases in noise from air traffic. A further near doubling of air traffic movements would be unbearable. 2) As an Emeritus Professor of Social Policy, I would question the claims made by the Applicant with regard to (a) the projected socio-economic benefits of further airport expansion and (b) the adequacy of proposed mitigation measures with regard to health and social wellbeing at both local and global levels. I would suggest alternative socio-economic development scenarios which would have greater beneficial impact and more sustainable outcomes than the proposed expansion of Luton Airport.
