The expansion of Luton Airport will have a massive impact on the physical and mental health and well being of everyone living in the surrounding area. This area is already blighted by the serious noise problems, pollution from the planes (fumes and smuts) and road traffic, road congestion and 'fly parking'. The high level of noise throughout the day (especially early mornings and much of the night) from the planes at present is already almost unbearable - it means windows have to be kept closed and especially during any warmer weather (and all through the summer months) this causes enormous additional issues, especially for those with breathing difficulties. And of course there are also major environmental impact considerations. While my address is not in the local area, my sister lives in Caddington, very much in the area affected by all the airport issues, and as I live alone and she is my only relative, I spend a considerable amount of time staying at her house so we can spend time together in our retirement as we are both in our 70s. I am therefore directly affected by the current noise and pollution issues, and the prospect of the airport expansion would be a complete nightmare and deeply distressing.
