With Luton Rising’s incredibly generous support over recent years, CHUMS has become a Luton-inspired Children and Young People (CYP) and adult’s mental health success story, supporting around 3,500 local CYP and their families every year. Like Luton Rising, CHUMS is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Thanks to organisations such as Luton Rising supporting us, we have grown to be the leading not-for-profit provider of mental health services across the whole of Luton and Bedfordshire. In fact, since we started in 1997, we have helped over 80,000 children and young people and their families, enough to fill Luton Town FC’s Kenilworth Road Stadium 8 times over! That is why we believe that what is being done through the DCO is right for Luton, it’s people and it’s rich and diverse businesses and communities. There are very well evidenced links between poverty and deprivation, and poor mental health. By daring to dream of a better future for Luton - through these innovative and ambitious plans to grow the airport in such a unique, net-zero and community-minded way - local people and local organisations like CHUMS can face the future, confident that there is a sustainable and successful plan in place for the future of Luton.
