I have concerns regarding the expansion of Wigmore Lane and Eaton Green Road into dual carriage way. These two roads are primarily residential. Why cause major disruption in a heavy populated area when Vauxhall Way from Hitchin Road to Kimpton Road is a main 'A' road and has already been developed at its junction with Hitchin Road and is just half a mile from Wigmore Lane and allows easy , speedy access to the Airport. It has all the space necessary to develop it into a dual carriageway. It makes no sense. Also should the proposed development go ahead you have two schools and hundreds of houses to consider with the huge increase in toxic fumes that road development will cause. Access to any new terminal or industrial estate if the permissions are granted , could easily be made within the airports current boundary. Also the footprint of the developement itself. I feel the increase in the carbon footprint will be huge. The unnecessary development of Wigmore Park, a mature area of parkland much coveted by the local residence which was given to the local people for their use before the council spirited it away. To expect an area of ploughed field to take its place, it would take a lifetime to develop to a level we currently have. The cost of the project and the amount being borrowed by the council to pay for it is staggering. I have recently flown out of and into Luton Airport (May 23) . The departure areas are no more than OK but I was disgusted at the state of the arrivals from the narrow dirty walkways and corridors to the arrival area with Boarder control. No moving walkways or conveyors, with filthy dirty toilets which greet incoming passengers. Surely it would be money better spent in upgrading those areas of the airport before considering any further expansion plans and by then the trends / expected travel numbers will be better know.
