I have been writing to the airport about the noise of departing aircraft in the Clifton Corridor for many years. Our house is in a very peaceful location and under normal circumstances we hear very little ambient noise. We chose to live in this location for that reason. However, the increase in air traffic from Luton has had an enormous impact on our quality of life. We face North and East and when the aircraft are taking off on this route we can hear the roar of the planes from take off, through the tight turn to the south and back virtually overhead, by such time there is usually another plane taking off which makes the aircraft noise constant. Effectively, the noise nuisance equates to double the number of aircraft taking off. In addition we often seem to have departures from Heathrow passing directly overhead which never used to happen. The problem is two fold. Firstly, our sleep is disturbed by the number of night flights, which go on far too late at night and too early in the morning. Secondly, when the easterly departures are in operation the weather is normally set fair and we like to spend time In the garden. Sadly, a nice peaceful afternoon is invariably spoilt by the aircraft noise. We can choose to live in the country, away from busy roads and railways but we have no control over the skies. We are totally opposed to any further expansion. We have four major airports in the South East and I feel we have reached saturation point. Priority should be given to regional airports.
