The main issues for me is the increased noise and air pollution I think air pollution should be closely monitored and data available readily to local residents who live near an airport. Efforts should be made to ensure that air pollution levels are maintained at an acceptable standard. I’ve lived in Luton now for four years and was under the impression that planes do not take off or land during unsociable hours however I have experienced first hand that this is not the case and have often had sleep disturbed by planes taking off or landing in early hours of the morning . If the expansion is to take place I think that stricter controls on take off and landings should be adhered to to ensure local residents sleep is not disturbed. The other issue i see which could be caused by the airports expansion is greater local traffic I work nearby and commute using local roads and the M1 and I’d be interested to hear dhow the developers will minimise the delays and disruptions which may be caused from the proposed increased amount of airport users. I do think there are positives of an airport expansion such as a greater supply of flights hopefully bringing prices down for local travellers, the increased number of local jobs that will be provided. It would be good if this goes ahead that this is a catalyst for wider improvements across Luton and the town centre that make the area a nicer place to live sorting out drug and homelessness issues in the area. If a CIL levy can be used to improve the town centre and surrounding areas and this helps to improve the prices of local property then this will be a good thing.
