London Luton Airport is a unique community owned Airport that has positive social impact on our town provided by Luton Rising to build better lives in Luton and support our most vulnerable residents, this unique contribution made by Luton Rising supports the breadth of front-line services in Luton. Since 1998 this contribution has been nearly £500m. For every passenger travelling through, 53p is invested directly in the local community: 20 times that of any other UK airport. London Luton Airport has been a life line for many of people in and around Luton, supports 16,800 jobs in the regional economy (over 11,800 in Luton) and economic activity of £1.8bn per annum for UK GDP. This sustainable long-term growth will deliver a projected 4,400 new jobs in Luton and 6,100 more in the three counties, plus economic growth of £1.5bn per annum. Luton Rising is a key partner in Luton’s 2040 Vision for a carbon-neutral town where no one needs to live in poverty. Luton Rising has gone further than any other UK airport to minimise and mitigate the environmental effects of the proposed growth, putting forward a unique Green Controlled Growth framework that will set independently-monitored limits for each of the four main scalable impacts (of noise, carbon emissions, surface access and air quality) beyond which growth cannot take place. This ensures for the first time in the UK that an airport expansion will not be delivered at the expense of the environment, and provides certainty for residents. Therefore I fully support this application for the expansion our airport.
