Luton Airport is a great asset to the town. It brings a lot of revenue to the area, and employs over 17,000 people, most of whom live in Luton and the surrounding areas. Expansion is always good to increase revenue, employ more people and with great transport links from London, it's another alternative to Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow. TUI/First Choice is also based in Luton, so they have a great relationship with Luton airport too. There will always be opposition, such as changing / increasing / new flight paths, which, understandably is a bone of contention, especially if it's right over your house, and also issues regarding climate control, and wanting to reduce your carbon footprint, this may seem counter-intuitive. However, I feel the good that can be brought to Luton, by the airport's expansion, will benefit the local public, communities and charities etc, and this, I feel, far outweighs the negatives. NOTE: Luton Airport Passenger Drop Off prices are one of the most expensive in the country with £5 for 10 minutes, then £1 per minute thereafter. Heathrow charges the same! Passengers are also paying £4.90 per single trip on the DART from Luton Parkway Station, which is double the price they were paying for the shuttle bus. No doubt, this will be another excuse to raise these prices even further to recoup money back from the expansion costs. This should be a definite no no!
