Given the acceleration of climate change it is unacceptable to consider any expansion to avaiation. We should be drastically reducing it to meet our Net Zero targets- UK regulation! Its the net increase to in-flight emissions that counts, not on site airport infrastructure, that is negligable emissions. It also contributes to air and noise pollution and congestion locally. I see no evidence for economic benefits. We need to invest in better rail and low carbon transportation. The case for aviation is made worse as airlines struggle despite significant (inexplicable) government subsidies, from next to no aviation fuel tax and tax breaks to intice ariports to regions. How is any talk of aviation expansion compatible with a net zero future? To consider it is to commit us to increased climate instability and why? To line the pockets of local investors. As local planning departments, you need to show some backbone and stand up for both local and global populations alike and not fall for the flummary of PR spun by investors.
