The expansion is disproportionate to the population of the UK. No airport expansion is acceptable in the light of global warming before "green" fuels are widely available. The impact on on our remaining green spaces is devastating. Air quality is already an issue, because of our geography, causing breathing difficulties, particularly for children and the elderly. The local impact of increased traffic on top of current issues: ten sets of traffic lights, noise, pollution and traffic fumes on the adjacent estates will also impact the wider Luton area. Noise levels are currently unacceptable at night, in the summer, when we are constantly woken at 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. and we already cannot trust the operating company not to keep within the rules on noise either for flights or during construction work. Lack of sleep for local residents is already a serious health concern. This spending on a single local industry is impacting spending on all other services, a diverse local economy and "green" industry projects when there is no need for the capacity equivalent to half of the UK population to to have to fly from this one unsuitable location due to geography and close proximity to residential and recreational land.
