At face value, the proposed 80% increase in passenger capacity means: 80% more flights 80% more noise 80% more pollution 80% more congestion in road and rail travel to the airport. The pre-Covid situation on flight frequency and their timing in unsociable hours, noise and pollution was already the subject of local objections over a wide area. Hence arguments claiming major amelioration or reduction in the above impact are simply not credible or acceptable unless they result in lower levels of disturbance than in 2018-2019. I strongly object to this enormous expansion of Luton airport activity. At a time when there are extreme concerns re global warming, the environment and the need to reduce the excessive use of fossil fuels the plan to expand the airport and massively increase all the above to the detriment of local residents is unwarranted. The driver for this is purely to increase the profits of the authority and airport operators it is a disgrace that the council is not following its on environmental policies. I cannot comprehend any possible justification for further expansion of the airport over and above its current operating levels.
