We live within sight of the control tower and frequently experience noise pollution and air pollution particularly in the form of the smell of aviation fuel which can cause us to close windows. The main concern is that we already experience the effects of airport users parking, and often abandoning their cars outside our houses causing difficulty for residents and their visitors and the users of the local recreation space. These cars can be left for weeks and despite requests to Luton Council for action on this nothing is done. The council say they will 'encourage' users to make use of sustainable transport but a large percentage of those who leave their cars in residential areas are frequent fliers to eastern Europe who say they cannot afford to park at the airport and this will not change. Due to the current track record of the Council on this issue I fail to be convinced that they will keep to any promise regarding the future expansion and they care little about the residents already affected by the airport. Wigmore Park is of fundamental importance to the residentail community around the airport and this expansion will curtail its size and positioning within the community it is meant to serve.
