In a world where climate change is an ever-present threat with overwhelming evidence, vastly increasing the number of flights from any airport should be near impossible. I would urge the government to prevent this from happening. Whilst the proposal makes claim of carbon neutral ground operations, pound-for-pound the damage kerosine does at altitude to the ozone layer is far greater than any ground based pollutants. Therefore increasing the number of flights whilst having carbon neutral ground operations does not negate the impact this will have on the planet. For me this is greenwashing at its most sophisticated – getting people to feel less guilty about flying when in fact they should be considering how they should reduce the number of flights they make. Giving people more choice and more convenience will only make doing the right thing – flying less – more difficult for consumers. And is the who have the greatest power of influence on our planet. Do not let this happen. Do not be Greenwashed. George Bevan
