Staking Luton's income on an unsustainable and highly polluting industry artificially propped up by massive government airline industry subsidies doesn't provide our town with any future security. IF any future government ever get real about net zero those subsidies encouraging air travel instead of rail and sea will disappear with the stroke of a pen, taking with them any future viability of the airport. We ought to be improving Luton, not putting all our eggs in the airport basket. This proposed project is driven purely by the council's greed for short-term government subsidies. Luton council has a track record for this - as seen with the inner ring road, the busway, the Vauxhall Way roundabout replacement and the DART. These took funds, which could have been better used elsewhere in the country, from the taxpayer to put in the hands of developers. None of these project provide meaningful benefit to the lives or the futures of the people of Luton or the rest of the country (most created knock-on problems). They don't make Luton more sustainable or a better place to live.
