I am writing to express my strong objection to the proposal to expand Luton Airport. After careful consideration and evaluation of the circumstances surrounding the situation, I firmly believe that the proposed expansion is inappropriate on environmental, climate change, noise, traffic, psychological and other grounds. I would like to outline some of the reasons for my objection: Noise Issues and Sleep Disturbance: The current noise levels generated by the airport already disrupt the peace and tranquility of the nearby residential areas. In summer we cannot have windows open overnight, as night flights wake us leading to sleep deprivation and associated psychological issues. Sleep beyond 6am is currently impossible and the plans may make significant flight numbers commence even earlier I the day. The expansion plans, with increased air traffic and larger aircraft, will only exacerbate this problem, leading to further disturbance and sleep deprivation for the affected residents. This adverse impact on the well-being and quality of life of the community cannot be overlooked. Air Pollution: The increased air traffic resulting from the expansion will significantly contribute to higher levels of air pollution. Aircraft emissions, including noise, greenhouse gases, and particulate matter, pose a serious threat to both human health and the environment. Traffic Issues: The existing traffic congestion in and around Luton already poses significant challenges for residents and commuters. The proposed expansion will inevitably lead to a surge in passenger numbers, causing further strain on the local road networks. Insufficient infrastructure to accommodate this increase in traffic will result in longer travel times, increased congestion, and a negative impact on the overall transport efficiency in the region. Environmental Concerns: Luton Airport is adjacent to areas with rich biodiversity and ecological significance. Any expansion above the current (too high) passenger numbers will have potential adverse effects on the surrounding ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and green spaces. In light of these concerns, I urge the planning examiner to reject outright the proposed expansion plans of Luton Airport.
