In the midst of a climate crisis I must voice my extreme concern at plans to expand Luton airport and double the passenger numbers. If the UK is to reach net zero by 2050, we cannot as a country invest in intensive carbon emitting transport and infrastructure. As any people have noted, the harm this project will cause to local residents, the British public and overall the entire population of the world, far outweigh the potential for jobs in the area and the opportunity for investors to profit off of the project. It does not surprise me unfortunately that a corrupt Conservative government would be motivated by greed over peoples health and climate change, but hopefully we will have a new government in place within the next year who will be able to put a stop to disastrous plans to trash our planet further. Carbon emitting issues from planes aside, the increased traffic to the airport will also result in more carbon emissions on the local area from cars and buses. The increased traffic will result in more noise, traffic jams, accidents and inconvenience for people in the surrounding areas. Please use some common sense and cancel plans to expand the airport. Nothing is more important than reducing our carbon emissions and avoiding total climate collapse.
