The Luton Rising proposal presents a great opportunity to deliver improvements in the economy and support communities in and around Luton. It is pleasing to see that Luton Rising have developed a green growth proposal for the airport expansion so it isn't at the expense of the environment. We fully support / share the vision for a carbon-neutral town by 2040, or ideally sooner if possible. The environment and green issues are very important to Girlguiding. We are keen to work together to understand in more detail how the plans will impact / preserve the local environment, and would welcome a partnership to create activities we can run in conjunction with you for our young members to educate them and give them a voice. As a charity, we benefit from the work Luton Rising does for voluntary and charitable organisations in Luton. Without the funding Luton Rising provide to Girlguiding Luton South division units, used for meeting place rental payments, certainly some Rainbow, Brownie and Guide units would have to close. As without this fund, they would not have the money to be able to pay the rents through subscriptions and fundraising by themselves. So we are very keen this pot of money continues to be made available to community groups such as ourselves. And it sounds as though this expansion proposal will provide additional funding longer term, which we will benefit from.
