Currently I can get some sleep between midnight and 6am while the frequency of flights is severely limited. I am woken at 6am each morning as flights begin again. Under these proposals, flights would continue unabated through the nighttime hours with consequent disruption to sleep and detrimental impact on physical and mental health. The pollution caused by aircraft taking off and landing already affects sufferers from asthma and other respiratory illnesses. The proposed increase in numbers of flights would only exacerbate this. The proposed expansion is in direct conflict with commitments to carbon neutrality and reducing the effects of climate change. The only justification for the expansion is increasing the revenue generated for the airport owners. This completely ignores the blight caused to the lives of the surrounding population.
