I believe that the proposed expansion is too large and will be disastrous for residents and the environment of the area. It will be a blight for many residential homes and public areas, particularly those areas used for recreational purposes. As it is now, the airport is profitable and works reasonably well within its surrounding environment. Expansion on such a massive scale will destroy this balance. Expansion of the airport is all about chasing market share and increasing revenue streams and not to fulfil a pressing demand. Luton is putting too many eggs in one basket, following the relatively easy option of airport expansion rather than promoting a strong diverse economic base. With all the talk of creating jobs and painting a rosy picture all around to promote this project, nobody should be in any doubt that expansion will have an unacceptable damaging effect on the quality of residents lives both in Luton and the surrounding areas, along with tremendous pressures on the environment that will in parallel.
