As a resident and house owner in Breachwood GreenI wish to strongly object to the proposal for the expansion of Luton Airport. • The proposed increase in flights would greatly increase the often excessive levels of noise experienced by those of us living in BWG. Currently the noise levels, particularly during the night and in the early morning, are affecting both the physical and mental health of those of us living in the village by exacerbating levels of stress and tiredness. • Use of very old and extremely noisy freight carrying planes at night frequently disrupts sleep patterns so increasing the levels of stress. There is no proposal to limit this in the expansion plans. • Excessive noise severely affects the learning and planning of work in the village school and preschool. Equally affected are the local community facilities in the Village Hall, MUGA & other recreation spaces used for meetings and sports activities. • Light pollution: Breachwood Green village is not lit by choice and local villagers have commentated strongly against changing this. Light pollution in areas of the village is dominated by the airport site, particularly the construction of 2 multistorey car parks. This will be increased by any further expansion plans. • The airport quickest approach from the east requires using narrow country roads, in some parts single track with passing places. It is inevitable that many will choose to use these roads to reach the airport area while avoiding congestion in Hitchin and Luton. This is particularly likely for staff working at the airport. These roads are currently very overloaded, with hold ups and damage being done to road edges and surrounding trees. It currently causes problems for local drivers and children walking to school and this would increase. • The plans to excavate 500,000 tonnes of earth to enlarge the airport area are very concerning. This will seriously affect the area and resulting subsequent removal of valuable land used for crop production to replace the current park area is unnecessary. • The consultation events organised by the airport were run entirely by external consultants, whose knowledge of the local area was woefully inadequate, so information provided was of little use to residents. • The current offers of insulation grants are inadequate and do not cover the whole village.
