I am concerned about the environmental impact of air travel. I think that as the airlines increase the supply of destinations and frequency of flights, and market them heavily, then demand rises to meet the supply. I do not believe that there is an unmet need for air travel, and therefore I do not believe that it is either necessary or beneficial for Luton Airport to expand. It would be better for the environment for there to be less not more air travel and for people to be encouraged to consider alternatives to air travel, and alternative destinations. I am also concerned about the noise impact of the flights. Flights take off over built up urban areas, with narrow flight paths which means that whilst the number of people affected may be smaller than a wide flight path the disruption experienced for those affected is intense. At present the noise pollution is worse at particular times of day, with some airlines being significantly more noisy than others (WizzAir is particularly bad). If the airport is expanded the number of flights will increase with a significant increase in the amount of noise pollution for those in the flight paths. Therefore I am AGAINST the expansion of Luton Airport.
