The new prosed changes still do not take into account all the issues before planning permission was granted. Firstly, with climate change, why are we needing to increase capacity of an airport. The plans state that operators will be encouraged to use more green or sustainable air crafts, but this is not enough. These suggestions are not enough to cut the CO2 emissions that we need to cut as a country and I feel that adding more capacity will only increase the CO2 emissions. Secondly, the local road infrastructure is already struggling, and this would be made worse with a second terminal. Also people parking on the local roads and blocking the roads while they go away for weeks is already an issue. This makes access to roads very difficult and could lead to issues if emergency vehicles can’t access a property. This has not been addressed in the new the proposal. Finally, the noise and air pollution for people who live near the airport. The plan suggests that noise will either stay the same or only increase slightly which I think is laughable. If there is more capacity, there will be more planes leaving and landing at the airport which will increase noise and pollution. This isn't just from the airport and planes but the local roads. An increase in capacity will lead to more people coming to Luton. Although there is a train sercive and the DART, with increasing cost of train travel and strikes people will use roads which in turn will lead to more pollution and noise.
