We strongly oppose Luton Airport's proposals to nearly double its capacity to 32 million passengers. in 2012 the airport said that growing its capacity to 18 million passengers by 2028 would be sufficient to support the local economy and jobs. This current application represents a significant additional expansion that would cause 60% more carbon emissions, create unsustainable environmental damage and health impacts through additional pollution to what it alreeady a highly polluted area. It would also cause noise-blight to the surrounding areas and increase congestion to local rail and road services, with all the associated increase in pollution and poor air quality. Luton Council has declared a Climate Emergency and this proposal runs directly counter to that declaration.
