As a resident living less than 10 minutes drive from the airport I am aware that there will be an impact on the local roads - but I am sure that this will be addressed at the planning stage and in many ways may improve the traffic flow eliminating some of the local rat runs On balance I believe that the benefits will outweigh any downside in terms of local employment opportunities, apprenticeships and contributing to the local economy The arguments about pollution and environmental impact are a red herring as technology is advancing rapidly so that air travel is becoming as carbon responsible as other forms of transport - a larger airport base will provide more opportunity for research into aircraft that are more efficient and create less emissions
