Although I do not live in Suffolk, my family and I have, for the last 45 years, looked on the county as our second home. In particular, the area around Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Leiston holds strong and binding memories for us all. I have noted with dismay the formidable changes that have taken place during those years and am horrified to find that no care seems to be taken to preserve Suffolk's rich and beautiful heritage. What a disappointment that my grandchildren will be unable to share this heritage with their children! I hate to think of the upheaval that will inevitably take place and destroy the peacefulness of places where we could always find tranquillity and calm. The heavy traffic that will be necessary for the plans to proceed will destroy the quiet and safety of beautiful, unspoilt villages, causing heartbreak to residents. Will holiday-makers still be drawn to the beaches and coastal towns which have previously pulled them back year after year? I very much doubt it. Here we have been considering the impact of the project on humans. Is there no other life that deserves consideration? What right do we have to destroy the habitats of the wildlife for which Suffolk is famous? Is this really progress? For whom?
