I am writing to register my objections to the idea that the substations for EA1N and EA2 should be sited at Friston; I support the representation being made by SASES and by Friston Parish Council. 1) Living locally we are probably already having to deal with 2 nuclear power stations being built at Sizewell; this will have an enormous impact on residents, and largely destroy the tourism trade and landscape. SPRs plans for EA1N and EA2 seek not to use the traffic routes already proposed for the nuclear power station development but instead use a heap of small local roads further South, roads and roundabouts which cannot take the lorrys without development and which will then permanently alter the character of the area. 2) I live at Sizewell and will find it impossible to get out and into Aldeburgh, or the A12 because every single route will be gummed up with lorries and no doubt traffic controls, including an unadopted road through the woods past Sizewell Hall, where the cable makes landfall. 3) If siting the substations for EA1N and EA2 in Friston is agreed, you will effectively also be agreeing an industrial landscape bigger than Horseguards Parade in a tiny country location. Further substations will be sited there..National Grid and possibly Nautilus and Eurolink Interconnectors. As we have learned from the Galloper and Greater Gabbard wind farms, these companies have a habit of expanding; digging up the countryside to trench more cables to support the expanding windfarm will continue, despite the fact that there is now very little room for the cabling to make landfall nearby. There has not been any cumulative assessment taking into account all of the proposed projects, including EDF nuclear development. 4) substation design fails to even try to get near the 8 meter heigh of Rampion but seeks permission for 18m - unacceptable in this environment. 5) This is a fragile coastline, prone to flooding and erosion which is getting worse rather than better. In 2018 a man was killed by an eroding cliff face less than 1/2. Mile from the site that SPR want to bring the cable onto land. Other cables, buried, have suddenly floated to the top and become visible due to erosion. 6) Nothing in this project for locals… no jobs; it is all negative and effectively destroys a rural and tourist environment. 7) The NOISE from construction 24/7 will be incredible and on both sides of my home at Sizewell . 8) The site selection process seems defective particularly with regard to National Grid works; there has been very poor local consultation and an almost negligent amount of reports about the impact on the area, particularly when the residents can see how thoroughly EDF reports and consults with locals. 9) these should be sited on a brownfield site and NOT in open countryside.. Try BRADWELL nuclear power station site, and put all the substations on this site, including all the ones to come from round 4 Yours faithfully Henrietta Palmer [Redacted]
