I strongly object to the SPR renewables planning application for the following reasons: • The cliffs at Thorpeness are completely unique and represent a special area of outstanding naturel beauty. It seems completely wrong to subject this fragile area of coast to the ravages of an unsuitable development. Surely it should be protected and not wantonly damaged. • The proposed cable trenches and haul roads will pass through environmentally sensitive areas, threatening the rich, diverse wildlife habitats and vegetation including ancient woodland. • The works would be result in significant disruption and damage for many years. Unacceptable damage, noise, dust and light pollution to roads, public rights oy way and beautiful countryside. • The increase in traffic and HGVs on the narrow roads would be problematic for tourists and locals, especially cyclists. • The impact on tourism is likely to be severe. Tourists visit this area because it is beautiful, quiet and unspoilt with lots of opportunities for lovely walks. • This in turn would impact local businesses resulting in loss of trade in an already struggling tourism economy. Equally important will be the resulting social and economic decline as witnessed in many other coastal towns. • Siting huge substations next to the small village of Friston seems wholly inappropriate and would have a major detrimental impact on the village and it’s community. • If such proposed developments were to be permitted in this area, it would set a dangerous precedent resulting in the destruction of this beautiful area forever. • It seems this is the least appropriate and most disruptive approach that could be devised. There must be an alternative way forward that utilises less sensitive sites which should be developed instead.
