I strongly object to the SPR renewables planning application for the following reasons: • The magnificent but fragile cliffs at Thorpeness are completely unsuitable as a site for burying cables. This is a very special area for walkers and must not be wantonly damaged. • The cable trenches and haul roads will pass through environmentally sensitive areas threatening the rich, diverse wildlife habitats and vegetation, including ancient woodland. • For many years, while the works are ongoing, this beautiful area will be damaged by noise, dust and light pollution. • Public rights of way would also have to be closed temporarily and some permanently. • There will be an increase in traffic and HGVs on the narrow roads causing problems to tourists, locals and especially the many cyclists. • Tourists visit this area because it is beautiful, quiet and unspoilt with lots of opportunities for lovely walks. This proposed development, along with other major power projects including Sizewell C, are likely to have a severe impact on tourism. • There would be an impact on local businesses causing loss of trade in an already struggling tourism economy, resulting in social and economic decline as in many other coastal locations. • Siting a huge substation next to the small village of Friston would be far too dominating to this community and wholly inappropriate. • If such proposed developments were to be permitted here, it would set a precedent and this beautiful area would be destroyed forever. There are much less sensitive sites which should be developed instead.
