It is impossible to quantify what the negative impact will be of this project. However, I do have personal experience of living through major development and the harm this caused to community cohesion, social-economics, with increased anti-social behaviour, traffic chaos, light/air and noise pollution. A significant investment has been made with public and private funding to create an all year round offer for visitors which includes Performance Art as a key element - this will all be lost if this is approved. Our company staff (actors, directors and creatives) and our suppliers, as well as our audience members (those living locally, travelling via the main roads and visiting the area) will be unable to navigate without disruption. Delays will be caused, with increased risk of accidents/fatalities. The perception of the area as a place of tranquillity and peacefulness, AONB and dark skies etc. will be destroyed for over a decade. This project would then enable a further 6 or 7 energy projects to follow into the same area causing unprecedented industrialisation. The location of Friston for substations, and Thorpeness for landing infrastructure, and the hinterland between for cable runs is totally unacceptable. The developer has not listened to previous comments and suggestions, and has not demonstrated why they cannot refine the design to reduce the impact or consider other locations (brownfield sites). It is not clear how organisations/businesses will be compensated for loss of business temporarily during construction and longer term as our customers go elsewhere.
