I am the Leader of Fenland District Council. I object to the proposal on a number of grounds, principal among which are the following: 1. There is clearly overwhelming local opposition to this proposed development. 2. Wisbech is an area with poor road infrastructure. This proposal will add significantly to the number of Large Goods Vehicles using the road network in and around Wisbech. 3. This building, if built, will dominate the Wisbech skyline and will in many ways define Wisbech. Wisbech is by far the most deprived area in Cambridgeshire according to the most recent Index of Multiple Deprivation, and this application would even further negatively affect the image of Wisbech, both for outsiders and for local residents. 4. There is no local need for this proposed facility. If there is a wider need for it, it should be situated closer to its sources of input, thus minimising LGV total vehicle miles. 5. Fenland District Council is trying to promote more and better employment in the South Wisbech area. If this incinerator is built, many potential new ‘clean’ businesses will be discouraged from locating in or relocating to our South West Wisbech industrial and commercial development area, as they will not wish to invest in the immediate neighbourhood of an incinerator. I reserve the right to submit further comments during the Examination.
