Cowfold is already a bottleneck for traffic, particularly on the A272 to the east and west of the village. The proposed development will add considerable amounts of additional journeys by HGVs and staff vehicles servicing the site. The proposed access routes including Kent Street, Dragons Lane and Wineham Lane are narrow country lanes. Widening them would have a negative impact on local residents in terms of noise and traffic, as well as the impact on hedgerows, woodland and wildlife. Planning for a wedding venue in Kent Street (DC/06/1049) was refused in 2006 on the basis of increased traffic, road safety issues and the undermining of the rural character of the area. Traffic flow would have increased since then due to more people living in and around the village, and more households owning more than one car. Hundreds of additional journeys per week would only add to these problems.
