The application from Rampion to build a substation at Oakendene at the junction of the A272 and Kent Street is going to be a blight on the whole area when finished and a nightmare for us residents lasting 5 years or more during the construction. Kent Street is a narrow single track lane with very few passing places and totally unsuitable for HGV's and yet Rampion are proposing to use this lane during the construction process. We have recently had an accident on the A272 between Kent Street and Wineham Lane which caused continuous 2 way traffic down Kent Street, this caused gridlock outside our house with drivers not knowing where they were and asking for help. This is not a position we want to be in on a permanent basis for 5 years once the construction gets under way if this is allowed to go ahead. I am concerned about what are currently untouched hedgerows being ripped up affecting the wildlife that live in and around them, these hedgerows and trees cannot be replaced and will be lost forever. We have a lot of wild animals, birds and insects in this area which I am sure will be frightened away once this work starts and may never return, I am sure Rampion never considered the impact on wildlife when they chose this site. We are currently visited at night by Badgers who come to feed on the duck food in our garden and wild deer also come to graze. This is currently a nice quiet area of the countryside and the thought of constant noise, traffic, pollution, denied access and having to drive out of our way to reach the main road is unbearable.
